Project AWARE is a five-year grant funded through the Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA). The purpose of the Project AWARE grant is to increase awareness of mental health issues in young people, train school personnel to detect and respond to mental health issues, and connect youth and their families to behavioral health resources.
Project AWARE staff at both the Department of Education and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the two state agencies who manage the grant, welcome Lindsay Walker who recently joined the Arizona Project AWARE team as the Safety Grant Specialist and the Training Coordinator at the Arizona Department of Education. Walker, who has a graduate degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in exercise science, brings diverse work and personal information to the team. She has previously worked in the nonprofit, education, and public health sectors. Additionally, Walker served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador
